Frequently asked questions

If you do not see the answer to your question below, please do not hesitate to reach out.

  • I don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. I have found what works best is to meet you at your starting point and together exploring an approach that will work for you. I prefer to blend aspects of a variety of approaches to find what works best for you.

  • Typically the first session is focused around me asking a lot of questions to better understand you and what you have been struggling with.

  • Therapy can be uncomfortable, particulary if you haven't done it before, growth happens in the discomfort. I do ask that you bring to session a list of topics or difficulties that you would like to focus or work on. I will be asking you to share your experiences, past and present, how you interpret these experiences and what these experiences mean to you. A typical session with me will feel like a conversation and not "clinical or sterile".

  • This is a question that is unique to each person. Typically sessions start at once a week and gradually move out further as you gain the necessary skills. Therapy isn’t meant to be forever.

    • Sadness or irritability lasting longer than 2 weeks
    • Problems in concentration
    • Rapid mood swings
    • Excessive fear, worry or anxiety
    • Social withdrawal
    • Suicidal thoughts or actions
    • Strong feelings of anger
    • Drug or alcohol abuse
    • Decreased ability to cope with daily problems and activities.
  • In-network insurance plans include Aetna, UMR, United Healthcare, Optum and Humana. Please note that out of network (OON) benefits can be accepted, a superbill will be provided so that you can submit to your insurance provider. Self pay is also accepted and all major credit cards as well as Health Savings Accounts (HSA) can be used.
